I consider myself a masterful reader and an amateur writer, but mostly I’m a book lover. I have big dreams of being published one day, but I need to actually finish one of my novels first. The thing about writing is it changes the way you look at books, in both good and bad ways.
We’ve all heard it’s easier to criticize than to do. This is very true for all professions, writing a novel especially.
But … I also think articulating what you don’t like about others’ work helps strengthen your own. It’s part of learning your craft. What did that author do that I hated? I need to not do that. Now what did that author do that I liked? How can I do it?
So I’m dissecting what I read, and then throwing it up here so you can read the mutilated result of that dissection. Lucky you.
